Patent policy (or lack of it) in biofuels development

http://www.checkbiotech.org/green_News_Biofuels.aspx?infoId=17947
This article on the green section of the checkbiotech.org site briefly looks at how patent policy could affect the development of biofuels.  There is mention of the possible clashes of ideology between “private” rights of patent holders when it comes to publicly funded research.

Is the EPO throwing down the gauntlet on patent applications?

http://www.epo.org/topics/news/2008/20080401.html

Despite receiving more patent applications than ever, statistics published this month have revealed the EPO granted almost 13% less patents in 2007 than in the previous year. EPO president, Alison Brimelow said “What we [therefore] need is not more patents, but more good patents.”

Any takers??

“CAFC (Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit)Overturns Jury Verdict of Non-Obviousness Because Combination Yields Predictable Results”
