Background
The programme began in 2003. Interns are selected from St Edmund’s college, University of Cambridge, a college that accepts mature students for undergraduate law training and an LLM programme. In addition, St Edmund’s has a policy of admitting a diverse student body. Our interns have been from Liberia, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Singapore, Latvia, England, Canada, the US, India, Uganda, and Hong Kong. Around half are women. All students come with legal and/or business experience as well as the lessons of their current courses.
Why does CAS offer the CAS@Cambridge intern programme?
1) To provide CG centres (and other CAS members) with a high quality legal resource, in-centre, at a non-intimidating level, at a low cost.
2) To expose these legal professionals to the context of agricultural development. Many of our interns have returned to the CG for completion of pro bono work and/or consultancy work. This is a great funnel for much needed, bright legal minds into the system!

Jayesh Soni went to ICRISAT in India in 2007. Here he is pictured with Hanumanth Rao, the ICRISAT IP Manager to the left and Dr JDH Keatinge, DDG of Research, on the right.
