Performance Measurement System for Genebanks

Open-air fruit market in downtown Cali, Colombia
What is it?
The Global Public Goods project (GPG) was created to upgrade management of the in-trust collections held in the CGIAR Centre gene banks. The first phase began in 2003 and addressed the most pressing upgrading needs of the gene banks. The second phase began in 2007 and aims to build on the successes of the first phase to improve the quality, security, accessibility and sustainability of the in-trust collections, and to optimise the CGIAR’s contribution to global genetic resource conservation and use.
What does CAS-IP intend to deliver?
CAS-IP is researching and contributing, as part of the larger Global Public Goods project, to a sub project entitled “Development and implementation of a performance measurement system.” The use of a performance indicator system should lead to measurable improvements in the way genetic resources are managed by the CGIAR genebanks, at the local and global levels. This will lead to expanded use of genetic resources. The activities in this sub project are due to continue until 2009.
