IP & Agriculture
Two models of the agricultural development sector exist. One is driven by private industry and is aimed at those target countries where the possibility of profitability exists and the harnessing technology to enhance crop yield is possible. The other is traditional small farmer-base, with support from the public sector, and it is based on the collective use of knowledge and resources for sustainable agriculture.
It would seem these models are opposition to one another, having completely different needs and motivations when it comes to innovation and intellectual property rights, however, it is CAS-IP’s mandate to bring the benefits of new products and technology to farmers in developing nations through IP rights management.
